IFI hosted a field trip with students from Sexton Street School in Limerick out to the Mulkear River at Annacotty on 2nd June 2016. The school took part in the Something Fishy program and the Mulkear Management plan. The students learned about the Mulkear River and the restoration of the river through the Mulkear Life program throughout the year in the classroom.
They were very lucky to see Sea Lamprey ascending the Annacotty Weir through the Lamprey tiles. Students also surveyed the invertebrates at this site and gave the river a Q rating of 4 having seen mayflies, stoneflies and caddis flies. The fish which were present were Sea Lamprey, Eels, Salmon, Trout and Stickleback. The picture shows them cooling off in the sunny weather after a busy day learning.
