Despite poor weather conditions, 2012 has been a really great year for MulkearLIFE with many significant concrete conservation actions delivered. 2012 was also a big year for EU LIFE programme and MulkearLIFE was delighted to support this with a range of LIFE @ 20 events during the year with a focus on May 2012.
We would really like to thank all of you for your support, your participation in events, practical help and encouragement throughout the year. Your support is greatly appreciated. It has helped us achieve so much to restore the wider Mulkear catchment for Atlantic Salmon, Sea Lamprey and Otter and has helped us to enhance the conservation status of the Lower Shannon SAC.
We have a great deal of work planned for the year ahead. We plan to continue our instream works on the Mulkear, Newport and Clare / Annagh rivers with our outstanding partners; Inland Fisheries Ireland, the Office of Public Works and Limerick County Council. We will continue to work alongside local farmers to improve water quality in the catchment. We will continue to address migration barriers on the Mulkear with very significant work planned on the Lower Mulkear in the 2nd & 3rd Quarter of 2013. Our ongoing work to benefit otter will continue with the support of our colleagues in the National Parks & Wildlife Service. The removal of invasives throughout the catchment by our project partners and the Mulkear Conservation Volunteers will recommence in the 1st Quarter 2013. Our outreach and environmental education work in schools and the wider community with also continue in 2013. The first block of illustrated talks will kick off in early February 2013. Full details of all events will be available on the project website. Please continue to support MulkearLIFE in 2013 and get involved in project activities.
The Project Office will close on the evening, the 21st December 2012 and reopen on the morning of the 27th December 2012.
Nollaig Shona agus Athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh.
Le gach dea-ghuí
