MulkearLIFE End of Project Conference: 10 & 11 Sept. 2014

Celebrating River Restoration in Ireland & Europe - International 2 Day Conference

MulkearLIFE’s work will end on the 31 December 2014. To mark this important milestone, MulkearLIFE / Inland Fisheries Ireland will host an important End of Project Conference on the 10 and 11 September 2014. The conference is designed to mark the end of MulkearLIFE’s work programme and celebrate river restoration in Ireland and across Europe.

Installation of instream river restoration works (rubble mat) on the Mulkear River

Inland Fisheries Ireland, together with project partners, Limerick City and County Council and the Office of Public Works, with co-financing support from the National Parks and Wildlife Service, have ensured MulkearLIFE has made very considerable progress over the past five years. The conference will highlight this work to include presentations on key work areas.

The international conference will include presentations from other Irish and European projects involved in river restoration. The objective of the conference is to raise awareness of the various aspects of river restoration and to celebrate this work. In addition, the conference will highlight the role of the EU LIFE programme and outline the importance of the work being undertaken by LIFE projects on rivers throughout Europe.

Day two of the conference will include a field trip to various sites in the Mulkear Catchment where MulkearLIFE / Inland Fisheries Ireland, together with our key project partners the OPW and Limerick City and County Council, have completed river restoration work.

The conference will take place in the Castle Oaks Hotel (http://www.castleoaks.ie/), Castleconnell, Co. Limerick, Ireland. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and sits on the bank of the River Shannon.
