MulkearLIFE was thrilled with the turn-out at this year’s Cappamore Agricultural Show which took place last Saturday, 20 August 2011. The Show Committee and all attending were blessed with the most wonderful weather which brought out an extremely large crowd to the picturesque rural venue. The fine weather ensured a great day of fun and games was had by all.

Given that the Show is one of the biggest local events in the Mulkear catchment it was not surprising that the MulkearLIFE stand would be popular with both young and old. MulkearLIFE was delighted to greet so many local farmers and offer advice on general riparian management to those farmers and landowners with river frontage. The project also outlined the work presently underway within the local farming community on various rivers throughout the Mulkear catchment. There was a considerable level of interest in this work.

The event also proved an excellent opportunity to network with project partners and supporters in the Irish Farmers Association, local development bodies and the parents and students of local schools who have been, or who wish to be, part of the project’s Environmental Education Programme. The project greeted hundreds of visitors and was delighted to be able to give out free gifts to the many children who correctly identified wildlife images or who answered questions on the rich biodiversity of the Mulkear. The work of the project over the past two-years and plans for the next number of years were outlined.

MulkearLIFE would like to thank the Show Committee and all involved in making the show such a great success this year. The Cappamore Show continues to lead the way in terms of its overall ranking as one of the top One Day Shows in Ireland. The project offers is congratulations to all involved – the project is indeed already looking forward to next year’s show.
